Words of wisdom for days that are not so easy...

The other day when moving to Logan, my dad told me an awesome story about his grandpa.  My great grandpa, Arthur Kelsey Russon.  He was part of a construction team that was assigned to build some sort of water way/dam between Logan and Brigham City.  The construction was going well, but as they were close to finishing the dam, the water ways that would open up and release some of the water weren't working and it started to rain.  A lot.  It rained and rained for weeks.  They were all worried that if the dam got too full, it would break and flood Brigham City.  My great grandpa had been taught to pray in any time of need, so with faithful pleas, he asked Heavenly Father to do something.  Stop the rain, perhaps.  Then guess what!...It started raining even harder.  It started pouring!  Grandpa Arhur didn't understand.  They were desperate!  Suddenly the water flushed, it mysteriously drained!  What a relief - an unexplainable miracle.  Come to find out, the dam was built on a fault line and the pressure from all of the built up water, the water that poured down at what seemed like the most inconvenient time, broke the dirt in the line.  The water flooded into the the line and drained elsewhere.  Heavenly Father did in fact "do" something.  No, not in the way dear grandpa Arthur had hoped for, but his prayer of faith was acknowledged and answered as are all of ours.
"Sometimes it rains harder," my dad likes to tell me now.  "But the Lord knows best."  I don't always understand why we are asked to experience hard things in this life.  Or why sometimes it takes what seems like a whole life time for certain prayers to be answered.  I do know however, that the Lord in His perfect and infinite love has a plan for each of us individually.  I have come to know that in such a personal way in these last several months.  We MUST hold on and press forward, keeping our covenants.  He is in the details of our lives, and even when things pile up and everything seems to be going wrong, it is most definitely for our good.  Sometimes when we are at our breaking point, where the prayers of our hearts can hardly even be formed into words, well...

sometimes it rains harder.  :)

  1. Hannah,
Thank you... What a wonderful insight! I know what you are talking about is true. It is so hard sometimes to have the ability to hold on, and press forward. I love 2Nephi 4 5-6. " And I was led by the spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do.
    Nevertheless, I WENT FORTH.
Your Great Grandpa learned an invaluable lesson.
We must continue to have faith...
    I love you Hannah Joy!!
